For Teachers, Librarians & Literacy Professionals
The State Library provides professional development opportunities to inspire and support teachers, teacher-librarians, public librarians, authors and literacy professionals. These events are offered by the Library's Centre for Youth Literature and Education Programs Unit.
Booktalkers is the Centre for Youth Literature's program to keep adults up to date with the latest ideas in youth literature. The lively events offer the chance to meet authors, hear compelling speakers and discuss new ideas.
Boys, Blokes, Books & Bytes Workshops
A series of workshops run by the Centre for Youth Literature to introduce the Boys, Blokes, Books & Bytes toolkit and stimulate discussion about boys and reading.
ergo Introduction Sessions
'ergo' is an innovative website for secondary students and teachers, with lessons on research and writing and a unique collection of primary source material. The Library offers free sessions for teachers and librarians on how to make the most of the site's resources.
Exhibition Information Sessions
The Education Programs Unit conducts free introductions to the Library's permanent exhibitions and previews of temporary exhibtions for teachers, with information on related education programs.
Professional Development Seminars for Teachers
Full-day, interactive professional development sessions for teachers, provided by the Library's Education Programs Unit.
Reading Matters Conference
Organised by the Centre for Youth Literature, Reading Matters is Australia's leading youth literature conference. It is held biennially over three days. The next Reading Matters will take place in May 2009.
Young Reader Program Workshops
A series of professional development workshops for maternal & child health services workers, early childhood workers and children’s public librarians on reading and early literacy. Organised by the State Library and the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Youth Literacy Programs
The Centre for Youth Literature offers practical professional development for teachers and librarians working with teenagers and young people. The workshops and seminars present the latest ideas and strategies in youth literature.
2007 International School Libraries Day Conference
This conference, presented by the State Library with the School Library Association of Victoria, examined the theme of inquiring minds, flexible thinking and school libraries. Audio of the panel discussion is available to listen to online.
